Marcel,   I've not seen anybody else reply to this so my _guess_ is that, for some reason, R:Base is seeing them as a real or double number.   Presumably the column and any variables you are using for them are defined as text so with quotes around them any comparisons there should be no problem.   You don't say what your code is doing but check that you really do have the right definitions and quotes for the items in question.
