I believe that SpreadST.rmd written by Razzak does exactly that. This utility was distributed at this year's Developers Conference. I am not sure if it is public domain or not, Razzak can probably shed some light on this. If it is public domain, I will be glad to e-mail you a copy of it, or there may be a place at the Rbase web site from where you can download it.
