Rob, Sometimes it can be a problem adding a PK to a table already populated with data. If you are not careful that the data is very clean, you can damage the database.
What you can do in R:Tango is TELL tango which column to treat as the PK, without actually changing the structure of the table. See the previous message from me, which quoted the R:Tango User's Guide on the topic.
