To the R:BASE Community;

For a more streamlined approach to the update process, we have implemented
a new technology that works with your existing 6.5++ installation to automatically
locate your R:BASE files and install the update Patch to the correct location.

Occasionally, there are several issues that may arise, and to know what these
issues are will help you to resolve them quickly.

The first issue that you may experience while trying to run the Automated Update
is a message similar to the following: "Cannot find installation information," and the
process will abort. This is caused by the lack of a necessary Registry Key that the
program looks for to verify that R:BASE is installed on your machine. If you have
originally installed R:BASE from an installation CD that is more than 1 year old
and updated it via file downloads, it is probable that this key is not installed. To
correct this, you need to install R:BASE using one of the latter installation CD's
and then run the Automated Update.

Another issue that may arise is that the Automated Update may not locate the
correct location for your particular installation. Once again, this is related to
important Registry information that may not be present, and this is very easy to
resolve. All you need to do is simply click the ... button to the right of the location
(which should default to the folder that you are currently in should the Registry
information be absent), and navigate to your installation directory. Any system
files will be automatically located and updated.

The same is also true if for some reason you desire to install the update to a
custom location. Simply use the ... button to navigate to that directory and
install.

I hope this provides insightful information should a problem arise.

Best Regards,

Mike Willochell
