New topic in Off-Topic: WIndows Users: Free Utility for RB IDE Language Reference
barrytraver - Wed Jun 11, 2008 2:00 pm <http://forums.realsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?t=22855> Windows Users: You're presumably aware that the "Language Reference" under "Help" in the RB IDE is made up entirely of HTML files (and they are viewed in a web browser in the RB IDE which can do most of what a normal web browser can do). And these HTML files can be modified, just as other HTML files can be. I've prepared a simple replacement file (or supplement file, depending on how you look at it) for RB's index.html. If you've done a normal installation of RB, the index.html file for REALbasic 2008r2 is found in this location: C:\Program Files\REAL Software\REALbasic 2008r2\Resources\Language Reference\. Unless you like to play "Gambler's Choice" ("pick a category, pick a subcategory, pick a subsubcategory, and hope that you find what you're looking for"), you may want to try my replacement index.html file, which lets you look up information alphabetically by topic. There's NO RISK. First, there are just two simple steps to follow to install my file: (1) change the filename of the already-installed index.html to index2.html, and (2) copy my replacement index.html into that directory. Second, there are just two simple steps to follow to un-install: (1) delete my index.html file from your hard drive, and (2) change the filename of index2.html back to index.html. My index.html file is mostly this: Language Reference Index Alphabetically by Topic (my favorite way of looking things up) For me, if I want information on the EditField, the simplest thing to do is to look alphabetically under "E" for "EditField" (rather than guessing category, subcategory, and subsubcategory). And if I'm in the RB IDE and want to post something in the Real Software forums, I don't have to leave the RB IDE to do it (I just click on "Help," on "Language Reference," and on the appropriate link in my modified index.html file). But here are other links included in my index.html file: Language Reference Index by Category and Subcategory (the original IDE starting point for Language Reference, i.e., a link to the old index.html file, now named index2.html) Language Reference Index Alphabetically by Topic within Category (REALbasic's own topiclist.html; my guess it that you've never seen this before) Some REALbasic-related Web Links: Aaron Ballman's Blog ("Ramblings") Aaron Ballman's Programming Page Monkeybread Software Germany RBLibrary.com (click "No" if you get a script error) RB Garage rbjottings (Steve Garman) REAL Software REAL Software Forums REALbasic REALbasic Developer magazine REALbasic Mailing Lists REALbasic University REALbasic Web Ring Really Basic REALbasic (click "No" if you get a script error) REALsource (Google Group) TraverRB Blog ("Where's the Beef") TraverRBW Blog (Windows only) Wikipedia article on REALbasic Or type in your own choice of URL to visit from within the RB IDE! Try it: you might like it. (N.B., however: the file attachment is designed specifically for RB2008r2.) If you'd like me to send you the file, drop me a note at the following email address: opc AT traver DOT org (replacing the "AT" and the "DOT" by the appropriate symbols).
