Posts: 107 I'm stumped. On some Vista machines, my IPCsockets work
just fine. On others, no communications are getting through. Is there some
obscure Vista security setting that might disallow IPCsocket function?

Posts: 107 Found the solution. It is a Vista permissions problem.
Your exe's may not have sufficient priviledges under Vista to use IPCsockets.
The way I have worked around it is to right click each of the affected exe
files and set them to run as administrator. That fixed a host of odd failures
which wasted nearly five hours of my time as I attempted to find out what was
wrong with my programs. Thanks, Vista.

There may be a more limited and safer way to expand the permissions, but I
don't know it. Perhaps a Windows Vista jockey could help. I'm primarily an OSX
user who is forced to also support XP and Vista in my apps.

Posts: 167 yup - i had the same prob with some of my app's users
reported to me - so the only way was to run my app as admin in vista - not for
all machines but for some only -

and im eager to know - how can we deviate from this prob - cause not all of my
users are computer-junkies - so to make easier on them would have our apps to
run as admin by default directly from our apps -

so pls pls pls - anyone reply on this -
