I'm running RB2008 Pro Release 5.1 on Ubuntu 8.04.1 (Hardy Heron), which I believe is one of the supported distributions. If I put an HTMLViewer control on a blank/default form and try to run the program I get an error: Plugin "plugin:RBHTMViewer.rbx:0" is not supported for Linux. That seems to imply that HTMLViewer is not available for Linux. Yet, the documentation seems to indicate that it should work. Does anyone know if it should work and--if so--what I might need to do to make it work? _________________ My latest project http://www.sixstarsinthewindow.com Top npalardy Post subject: Re: Is the HTMLViewer supported on Linux with RB2008r5.1?Posted: Sat Jan 24, 2009 4:04 pm Joined: Sat Dec 24, 2005 8:18 pm Posts: 4319 Location: Canada, Alberta, Near Red Deer Do you have all the required supporting libraries installed ? _________________ My web site Great White Software RBLibrary.com REALbasic learning Top Dan Oja Post subject: Re: Is the HTMLViewer supported on Linux with RB2008r5.1?Posted: Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:24 pm Joined: Sat Jan 28, 2006 4:46 pm Posts: 103 Location: St. Thomas, USVI Hi nplardy, "Do you have all the required supporting libraries installed ?" That's a good question--probably the cause of the problem if my limited prior experience with Linux is any indication. I have Ubuntu 8.04.1. On that I installed RealBasic 2008r5.1, which installed fairly easily and seems to run fine--except for things like the HTMLViewer problem. I also installed the few plugins that I use on a regular basis and they seem to be working fine. Since some of our projects use QuickTime and Flash, I installed the Ubuntu unsupported package(?), which seems to have given me Flash and QuickTime. (At least I can now view Flash and QuickTime via FireFox on that Ubuntu system.) I don't know what else, if anything, I need to install to have a functioning Linux REALBasic programming environment. I was kind of hoping that now that RB officially supports Ubuntu, one could A) install Ubuntu, B) install REALBasic, and C) run programs or start programming, but maybe that's hoping for too much. The RB requirements page lists several requirements, but it would seem that those components are--or should be--included with the RB install or supported versions of Linux. Assuming Ubuntu 8.04.1, do I need to explicitly locate and install any of the following components--or anything else? 1. x86-based Linux distributions with GTK+ 2.8 (or higher) 2. glibc-2.4 3. CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) libstdc++.so.6 I appreciate any suggestions you might have. Sincerely, Dan Oja _________________ My latest project http://www.sixstarsinthewindow.com Top npalardy Post subject: Re: Is the HTMLViewer supported on Linux with RB2008r5.1?Posted: Sat Jan 24, 2009 6:22 pm Joined: Sat Dec 24, 2005 8:18 pm Posts: 4319 Location: Canada, Alberta, Near Red Deer Some components (like the HTMLViewer) require additional libraries One I know that it requires is libgtk but I'm not sure if that's installed by default on Ubuntu This thread listed a long list of 32 bit libraries that are required when using a 64 bit version of Linux You probably already have the vast majority though if you are using a 32 bit version of Ubuntu viewtopic.php?f=8&t=25218&p=133545&hilit=libgtk#p133545 _________________ My web site Great White Software RBLibrary.com REALbasic learning Top Display posts from previous: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by AuthorPost timeSubject AscendingDescending Page 1 of 1 [ 4 posts ] -- Over 900 classes with 18000 functions in one REALbasic plug-in.
