I need to install SQL Server for a group of about 10 - 15 people.
The version of SQL Server will either be the Workgroup or Standard edition and
will most likely be 2008, but could be 2005.

I have looked at SBS 2008 and that seems it bit overkill. Is there a smaller,
more stripped down Windows server that would be suitable? The server would be
used for the database and the database only.

Thoughts?

If you only need SQL Server ability then yes perhaps SBS would be overkill.
But I am not up on the latest prices of SQL Server. So that may be a factor
too? Also have you looked at Windows Server 2008 Foundation version? It is
cheap, supports up to 15 users and has many of the features of the Standard
edition. From what I read, it is priced at $150 - $200. I believe it is OEM
only, so you would need to purchase it from a reseller that has OEM versions.

Also if you don't need the latest greatest server/sql tech, there are still SBS
2003 editions for sale out there. OEM versions, if I recall are pretty
inexpensive for those versions.

I had not heard of "Foundations", but from what I have managed to read it may
be exactly what I am looking for. Any suggestions as to where to find this?
