The version of SQL Server will either be the Workgroup or Standard edition and will most likely be 2008, but could be 2005. I have looked at SBS 2008 and that seems it bit overkill. Is there a smaller, more stripped down Windows server that would be suitable? The server would be used for the database and the database only. Thoughts? _________________ Thanks, Craig -------- "Stress is the body's way of saying you have not worked enough unpaid overtime." ~ Scott Adams Top paulg Post subject: Re: What is my best server choice?Posted: Mon May 11, 2009 9:32 pm Joined: Thu Oct 05, 2006 11:45 pm Posts: 242 Hi, If you only need SQL Server ability then yes perhaps SBS would be overkill. But I am not up on the latest prices of SQL Server. So that may be a factor too? Also have you looked at Windows Server 2008 Foundation version? It is cheap, supports up to 15 users and has many of the features of the Standard edition. From what I read, it is priced at $150 - $200. I believe it is OEM only, so you would need to purchase it from a reseller that has OEM versions. Also if you don't need the latest greatest server/sql tech, there are still SBS 2003 editions for sale out there. OEM versions, if I recall are pretty inexpensive for those versions. -Paul _________________ This message made with 100% recycled pixels. Any suggestions as to where to find this? _________________ Thanks, Craig -------- "Stress is the body's way of saying you have not worked enough unpaid overtime." ~ Scott Adams Top Display posts from previous: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by AuthorPost timeSubject AscendingDescending Page 1 of 1 [ 3 posts ] -- Over 900 classes with 18000 functions in one REALbasic plug-in.
