in my application using the free mysql edition, i have the problem, that it
sometimes lost the connection to the server.

my idea was to create an timer, maybe all 10 seconds and call "select null" (a
query with less performance). when the connection is gone, I would to connect
again to server. to avoid problems I would count the trys and stop after 3
failed connections in sequence.

is this a good idea? can I do it besser or is it a bad solution?
