Opening a database with 88,000 records, getting all the columns, takes 6 - 8 seconds via RB. Opening the exact same file via the Terminal, getting all the columns, is literally instantaneous. I've just got confirmation from another developer that was able to duplicate this. Why the difference? What is RB doing that's slowing things down this much.
