What about triggers? _________________ 6502 Assembler on Steroids Top brisance Post subject: Re: Some questions about database design and Real Apps...Posted: Sun Jun 20, 2010 8:31 pm Joined: Tue Oct 06, 2009 2:38 am Posts: 266 JustSomeGuy wrote:So you can't execute them from the plugin? What about triggers? You can execute them from the plugin by calling SQLExecute. But they are implemented on the database itself. Same goes for triggers. i.e. the code is implemented and executed on the server-side, not on from the client-side. _________________ Mike Ash: Getting Answers Top brisance Post subject: Re: Some questions about database design and Real Apps...Posted: Sun Jun 20, 2010 8:57 pm Joined: Tue Oct 06, 2009 2:38 am Posts: 266 For some reason, editing is disabled on this forum. Weird. My previous post was a little too short on details. Stored procedures: they are stored and executed on the server side. It is possible to set up a stored procedure to accept SQL input from the client-side, but that would pretty much defeat the purpose of stored procedures. Triggers: also on server-side, but the programmer on the client-side does not have control over when they occur. Typically they are activated when INSERT and/or UPDATE statements are about to be executed or have already executed on tables that the triggers are attached to. Useful for enforcing referential integrity rules, input validation etc. _________________ Mike Ash: Getting Answers Top JustSomeGuy Post subject: Re: Some questions about database design and Real Apps...Posted: Sun Jun 20, 2010 9:07 pm Joined: Fri May 11, 2007 11:35 am Posts: 891 Got it.. I thought a trigger would fire an event in my client.... And ya... Not having an edit button bugs me no end. _________________ 6502 Assembler on Steroids Top Display posts from previous: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by AuthorPost timeSubject AscendingDescending Page 1 of 1 [ 6 posts ] -- Over 1500 classes with 29000 functions in one REALbasic plug-in collection.
