Location: DFW area, Texas, USA Has there been a change to the
ability to edit our own posts. It used to work, but now its broken - I no
longer see the edit button.
The FAQs still imply I should be able to edit my own posts:
faq.php#f31

Location: Greater Hartford Area, CT Well it looks like the FAQ
should be updated. We removed the ability to edit posts. The forums have a
somewhat anonymous nature, and some users have posted unwelcome comments only
to remove them before the admins see it. By preventing editing, we hope people
will be more careful about what they say in the future.

Location: Boston, MA, USA Instead of taking away the ability to
edit why not instead take away the anonymous nature of the forums? It seems to
me that correct code and technical information trumps putting up barriers that
will do nothing to stop the misbehaving users of the community.

Trolls will always be trolling, but bad code can live a needlessly long
lifetime.

I agree with Pregan, the ability to edit ones posts may lead to garbage code
hanging around. I often edit a post to improve its clarity or correct errors I
made in my original post.

Will the mods consider this?

On the whole we are a helpful and friendly community, with the rare occasional
outburst thrown in for good measure. Please don't damn the majority by the
actions of a small minority.

Location: Greater Hartford Area, CT That does seem like a good
mod. We'll consider it. Our goal is an immutable archive, which that seems to
provide.

Posts: 626 I’m not a fan of foul language, rants, attacks and
other abuses of forums such as this and, from this perspective, I welcome any
reasonable effort by administrators to gain control of such
behavior…..especially if the offending posts seem to be orchestrated to
disrupt the good purpose of this forum.

I say let’s try this for a while and see how it goes. If the lack of editing
turns away those of us with good intentions, too often, then the issue can be
revisited by the community in the near future.
