Posts: 9 I have a fairly large desktop app I have been working
on for the past year, which has compiled and run fine on my system (Mac OS X
Snow Leopard 10.6) through Real Studio 2010 R5.1. However, upgrading to the
latest edition (2011 R1) over the past six weeks immediately causes repeated
appearance of a "This application has encountered a fatal problem and must be
shut down" dialog on compiling and attempting to run the program. It will also
do it on build, and in any configuration (combined, Intel, or PPC). I am
compiling and building using Carbon, not Cocoa.

I decided to tear down the app and start from scratch to see what would be
causing such a problem. One issue I ran into was a ToolBar. I removed it and no
longer saw this fatal error. Next issue was in creating a new class from a
PopupMenu. As soon as I attempted to subclass a PopupMenu, it again throws this
error. There may be numerous other issues like this which I have yet to run
across, since I have just started this tear-down and rebuild process.

Is anyone else having similar issues with Real Studio's latest release?

In addition, when this fatal error appears, it then puts up a dialog inviting
you to submit a bug report. However, on repeated attempts, I submit the bug,
the dialog closes, and then there is another dialog that appears that says
"Searching for a solution..." with a dialog and a spinner icon that goes and
goes and goes with no end in sight and just stays up forever. Is this normal
behavior, or is there an issue with the Feedback System in this release also?

In addition, just opening the Feedback system by clicking the icon causes it to
throw a dialog up indicating that another fatal error has been detected (and
this while the program compiles just fine) and with just sitting there in the
IDE and doing nothing else.

I have downloaded this release from Real Studio's web sites on 4 occasions now,
to try to refresh the software, but to no avail.

Any thoughts, similar problems, or suggestions from anyone else on all this
bizarre behavior?

Update: Now, after successfully adding the two main windows to my program,
adding a third window (by clicking on the "Add Window" icon under the Project
Tab in the IDE) now creates this fatal error.
In addition, I checked the feedback system on line. None of these fatal crashes
and bug submissions have been recorded or documented, despite repeated attempts
to do so).
