It's really simple stuff: there will be a "hotfolder" directory on the client's computer. As soon as a file arrives in the directory, it will be uploaded to a directory on the server (always the same server, always the same directory). The client and server will both be Windows-based, and the server has a web server using Apache and PHP. I was thinking about just using FTP (or SFTP, as the data may be of a sensitive nature), but the complication I have is that my customer has also said that some of the client users will be in heavily restricted network environments, and won't have access to port 21 for FTP. The only port they can use is port 80. So I am now wondering what is the best approach for this. Should I be looking at HTTP tunnelling? Or should I create my own server application to communicate with the client on port 80? If I do that, will I run into problems given that Apache is already using port 80 on the server? I would also need to set up some sort of queueing system for concurrent connections. There's no right or wrong answer for this, but I would be very interested in what others think might be the best approach for this. I've been away from RealBASIC for quite some time, and am still using RB 2010 r5, though I'll be upgrading very soon. Thanks in advance. brayne Top DaveS Post subject: Re: Interested in some opinions about a networking requestPosted: Sun May 06, 2012 9:07 pm Joined: Sun Aug 05, 2007 10:46 am Posts: 3658 Location: San Diego, CA I am not a network expert.... But I think that using Port 80 would cause issues as that is an HTTP request port. And if the clients are so heavily regulated that Port 21 is off limits, than I could only assume that most other ports would be blocked as well. However if they are not, I do believe you can reroute FTP/SFTP via any other mutually available set of ports. No matter what you do.. you are going to need a TCP/IP connection of sometime, unless you want to use email attachments _________________ Dave Sisemore MacPro, OSX 10.7.3 RB2011r3 Note : I am not interested in any solutions that involve custom Plug-ins of any kind Top Display posts from previous: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by AuthorPost timeSubject AscendingDescending Page 1 of 1 [ 2 posts ] -- Over 1500 classes with 29000 functions in one REALbasic plug-in collection.
