At the moment it seems - from reading around here and the mailing list - that our best course of action would be to use xml format, GIT and include some third party tool like Arbed to do diffs and other bulk source management. I'm pretty sure there is not "one size fits all" solution and I would very much welcome feedback before we get started (it is obliviously always painful to change that kind of thing mid-project...). Thanks Top npalardy Post subject: Re: Source control recomendationPosted: Tue May 08, 2012 4:56 pm Real Software Engineer Joined: Sat Dec 24, 2005 8:18 pm Posts: 7230 Location: Canada, Alberta, Near Red Deer At Real use VCP format projects & SVN Works fine across OS X, Windows & Linux For shared code we use svn externals as subprojects _________________ My web site Great White Software RBLibrary.com REALbasic learning Top atakacs Post subject: Re: Source control recomendationPosted: Tue May 08, 2012 5:29 pm Joined: Mon Mar 15, 2010 12:25 pm Posts: 10 Quote:VCP format I've read that there are issues with VCP format, especially with web projects ?! Works quite well but I eventually required a full version control system. I still use it for in between check-ins as a safety net. On their homepage, the button says "Free Version". Do you happen to know if that's really a free (but limited) version or is it a time-limited trial version? _________________ While fairly new to RB, I've been programming ever since that darned mastadon stepped on my abacus. It is the full version on a trial basis then after the trial period it reverts to basic functionality with a reminder at start up that you are using the free version. I think that I'll give FileHamster a shot. In looking at its capabilities, though, I may end up going with SVN after all. Thanks again. _________________ While fairly new to RB, I've been programming ever since that darned mastadon stepped on my abacus. Using RB 2009r5.1 on XP and Windows 7. Primarily it is for open-source projects, although you are not required to host open source projects there _________________ Matthew A.
