I have decided to pull the plug on the web application I was working on for a client. I finish the first part of the application, but seeing unusual and unexplainable browser behavior I decided to re-write that part of the application in YII/PHP. I was able to get the basic functionality in 1 hour, with sessions/field validation/active record/authentication Some of the things I had issue with: 1. Unusual behavior between FF/IE/Sarari - IE - webDialogs that showed up blank (randomly), IE toolbars(ask, yahoo) causing the windows to cut off - Yes set to auto adjust. - FF hang on start (NOT CGI) - Safari - Unusual Javascript missing element error, but never shows up again. Toolbars that would have missing icons randomly. There were other challenges I had 1. Sessions - Having to write the entire handling - Storing, expiration, unable to serialize the data to DB 2. Server - I only tried Host Gator which disabled my account because the app went to 100%, Trying to configure CGI exec() permissions on an Amazon Server (TurnKey was the only version I was able to get going) 3. Date pickers (surprise this is not embedded in RB), jquery features (Unable to use it reliably - or a supported solution), URL handling (you can via hash but you have to code the whole process) 4. Active Record - I know there is a great tool by BKeeney, but I still had to write all the validation, and Joins are manual. 5. Application start lag, not a huge issue, but some components of the application would be customer facing (not intranet), and that start time is a problem I would have to deal with. IE a php page that has a url that access the customers data loads in a second as opposed to RB with hash with CGI still took a while depending on the browser. 6. Email - No easy way of checking for errors, due to the email being sent out via socket and how it reports the error. I love the idea of Real Studio WE, but I get the feeling I am working with beta software. This is not a dig to the programmers, I think it is a great product, but I am not sure I can trust it right now for me. I will continue to use Real Studio for Desktop Applications/services, but for WE, I will have to wait a while. Thank you everyone for your help. PS I know some of the issues are due to my inexperience with WE.
