Posts: 1 I have a problem with my employees continually
"playing" on the internet (facebook, pinterest, twitter, blogs, etc..). I have
searched extensively for a product that will perform a very simple task - log
the URLs visited and email me the log. I am Mac only and need to be compatible
down to 10.4.

Does anyone know of a headless RB app that will perform this function? I say
RB only because I would probably ask the developer for custom features. The RB
community has been very good in the past to assist with these requests. The
second option would be for me to have someone write this for me. The third
option would be for me to write it (in my spare time, which is rare), however I
would need a little direction with how to capture the URL string. As an
alternative, I guess I could use a very simple proxy server, running on each
client, that could capture the URL and then pass it on.

Any thoughts?

Posts: 27 What is your goal? Is it to stop this "playing" or to
snoop on their activities?

If it is the latter then the only way is via a proxy or ip filter of whatever
manifestation, but obviously it is easier to install this at the end point of
your network (your gateway).

I don't know what type of network you have but if I was you I would place a
server (Linux/FreeBSD) as the gateway and install a proxy on that. Then
ban/log/trap whatever you want. You can set up iptables/ipfw rules to log
traffic, block traffic and so on.

So, in a nutshell, you need some block at the end point of your network before
it reaches the "internet".

(Oh, and if you only want them to stop playing, tell them!)
