Store my ripped Blu-ray collections of movies and TV shows (currently sitting at the 2.5TB level but will grow by at least another 1TB in the not-to-distant future)2. Store my music3. Store and protect my family photos (currently 200 GB)4. Rip my Blu-ray collection5. Share the above files over my network6. Provide redundancy against drive failures7. Playback my media using XBMC and watch live TV with a TV tuner card Just so you you where I'm currently heading: OS: Ubuntu (would consider Windows at a reluctant push) CPU: i5 3750K SSD boot disk 4 HDDs for data pooled into a single volume with either Greyhole/ mhddfs or UnionFS The above 4 HDDs protected with SnapRAID and an additional dedicated parity HDD I've spent a lot of time researching how best to provide a lot of storage space in a home environment and how to keep it safe. My question is, how would you do it? The only insistence I have is that one system has to provide all of the above - i.e. I don't want one PC to act as the media centre and another to act as a NAS - it's an all-in-one box solution I'm after. I do not want to use a Drobo. I've had one fail on me already and I dislike using a proprietary system that I can't recover myself. _________________ Gorgeous REALbasic controls from Figa Software | My Flickr | My Blog 11" MacBook Air 1.8Ghz i7, 4GB RAM, OSX 10.8.2, RB 2012 r1.1 Pro | iPhone 4S 32GB | Nikon D60 Top Display posts from previous: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by AuthorPost timeSubject AscendingDescending Page 1 of 1 [ 1 post ] -- Over 1500 classes with 29000 functions in one REALbasic plug-in collection.
