Posts: 484 I'm very disappointed in the American public
re-electing Obama.

The last 4 years were pretty bad.

With so many people out of jobs, so many businesses leaving the US due to these
policies, his planned tax increases, Obamanation care putting the hurt on small
businesses, the way he increases the deficit (+ 5 trillion) as if he has no
common sense. Incredible amounts of people on welfare.

This guy is trying to make our Country socialist.

The next four years are going to be very 'interesting' to say the least.

Scary times coming.

What do you guys think?

I think you are confused as to what Socialism actually is.

Not sure about that. I'm not an expert on socialism (who is?) and there are
varying forms or degrees of it but my point is Obama is pushing the USA into
the socialist direction.
He is anti-capitalistic and I think that is un-American. People who don't think
so probably aren't paying attention or don't know what socialism is. Obama
wants to punish those who make significantly more money than the poor and give
more to the poor or less ambitious. Why? I don't necessarily support that. I
don't believe in punishing someone who has achieved success because they worked
harder, smarter, and overcame obstacles to become successful. Socialism leans
towards wanting people to be equal economically regardless of individual's
creativity, hard work and success.
If I'm working 80 hour weeks why should I share my profit with a lazy bum who's
unemployed or only working 20 hours a week? I shouldn't. I am already by paying
taxes in the capitalistic society. And the wealthy who make significantly more
money than I do pay even more in taxes and Obummer is going to raise those
taxes. It's pretty unfair and very insulting considering this guy is spend
crazy and doesn't care about the national debt. Others should not be
economically reduced down to the lower level because some socialist said so.

The freedom to strive for more and the opportunity to succeed is a large part
of why this is the best Country on Earth. If we take away the benefits and
rewards of success people won't have any ambition or desire to achieve more. We
will fall behind as a Country and a nation of people.

Socialism is closely related to Communism and in my opinion it doesn't work.

Whether a person thinks that is good or bad is something else.

At least marijuana for recreation use is now legal in Colorado and Washington
state for those 21 years and older on the state level. Still not legal on the
Federal level.

who is only in power to destroy america incrementaly.
The media is owned by the elitists so dont think you will be getting any
balance there.
As for mitt he is exactly the same and would do the same thing if elected.
The whole election process is designed to distract everyone from the issues.
Your country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA There is an economic spectrum,
as I see it, with unrestrained total capitalism on one extreme and total
government control of all infrastructure and industry on the other.

The USA is just off-center in this spectrum, as almost all of the heavy
infrastructure is wholly or partially government controlled but almost all of
the industries are entirely private operations. Socialism, generally, is the
widespread takeover of industries by the government, particularly those
identified as quality-of-life and health related.

Communism can be described as a more Fascist interpretation of heavy-duty
Marxist fundamentalism where government control of industry is total and
pervasive.

Socialism, in my view, is not necessarily a bad thing. It makes sense to do
things collectively if by so doing we gain more than doing them piecemeal.
Unjustified intrusions by government into industry can't be allowed, I agree.
But we should be careful that we are examining each instance on its merits
rather than on whether Keynes or Marx would approve.

Barack Obama has not been the President I had hoped for. He has done many
things I like, and some big things I didn't like. Nevertheless what option did
the GOP put forward to contend with a President I liked but wasn't crazy about?
Some guy named Mitt who has some compelling arguments but never delivered any
substantive details as to what he would do as President or, even, what he would
have done substantively differently had he been elected in '08.

This is one of the issues with our nowhere-written-in-law two-party system.
Neither party had to put much effort into 41 of 50 states, it all came down to
9. Barack Obama may or may not be a good President; but he's the product of our
system, our acceptance of two and only two viable candidates for every office.
