I don't have a byte count so calling read(count , encoding) isn't going to work, calling readline(encoding) won't stop until (i presume) a 'new line' character is encountered. A simple loop until the end of string (0x00) is encountered could be written if you can determine the number of bytes per character for the particular encoding.
