I was thinking about going that route but I'm not sure if a VM is a better choice. Opinions? Suggestions? Now that I have your attention, I'll shoot another question: What is a better choice, develop on mac and build to windows or develop in windows and build for mac? I'm planning on purchasing a MacBook pro i7 with 8GB RAM tomorrow, just trying to decide which route to go. Not sure if I should have posted this in the Mac section. Thanks for any input. _________________ Future RS guru Top npalardy Post subject: Re: Running Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using parallelsPosted: Fri Jan 25, 2013 12:12 am Real Software Engineer Joined: Sat Dec 24, 2005 8:18 pm Posts: 7699 Location: Canada, Alberta, Near Red Deer I do Runs fine Personally I develop on OS X and deploy to everything else with suitable testing etc But then I work on the IDE _________________ My web site Great White Software RBLibrary.com REALbasic learning Top HMARROQUINC Post subject: Re: Running Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using parallelsPosted: Fri Jan 25, 2013 1:04 am Joined: Sun Jan 25, 2009 5:11 pm Posts: 344 Location: Guatemala, Central America npalardy wrote:I do Runs fine Personally I develop on OS X and deploy to everything else with suitable testing etc But then I work on the IDE Thanks for your answer. Ive done both in the past. When I worked on Windows and built for a Mac, I kept finding irritants when I ran the build on my Mac. Now, Im very happy indeed to work 100% on the Mac, then skip into VMWare Fusion to rebuild in the WIndows version of RS, and to do the Windows testing. Using a VM means I can switch out XP, Vista, 7 and 8 at will. I do the Windows build on my Mac and copy the files to Windows. In Windows I run the program and 99.99% of the time it runs without a hitch on Windows. One of the things that I have to be aware of every time is to fill the Menubar where required in the windows. If I don't, it runs fine on the Mac but the menus are absent in Windows. _________________ MacBook Pro (late 2008), OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2, Real Studio 2012r2 Top shaosean Post subject: Re: Running Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using parallelsPosted: Fri Jan 25, 2013 2:30 am Joined: Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:25 pm Posts: 254 Also you can use VirtualBox (a free VM) but I never got Remote Debugging working though.. I picked up an older used laptop and dual boot to Windows 7 and Linux Mint for Remote Debugging and will test out compiled apps in the VirtualBox VM.. _________________ Real Studio 2012r1.1 | MacBook Pro i5, 10.6.8 | Windows 7 Top Akiland Post subject: Re: Running Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using parallelsPosted: Fri Jan 25, 2013 4:05 am Joined: Tue Jan 04, 2011 3:02 am Posts: 1129 Location: Jönköping, Sweden paulsondervan wrote:I do the Windows build on my Mac and copy the files to Windows. That way you don't have to build for Windows and transfer the files so much http://docs.realsoftware.com/index.php/UsersGuide:Chapter_12:Remote_Debugging _________________ http://www.linkedin.com/in/albinkiland Dev. iMac 27" + 2x22" LG (2.8GHz Intel Core i7, 12GB RAM, 120GB SSD) OS X 10.8 REAL.Studio Web Edition 2011r3 Top Display posts from previous: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by AuthorPost timeSubject AscendingDescending Page 1 of 1 [ 7 posts ]
