I've been using it since the first beta and it's come a LONG way since then. Like you've discovered, it still has some annoyances, poor documentation, and missing functionality. I'm hoping that the new WebSDK makes some of those deficiencies go away as more people start working with it. _________________ Bob K. When it works, it works great and is a much more enjoyable and productive way to build a web app than PHP or even ASP.NET. When it doesn't work...well, you don't want to discover that mid project. I won't lie, even when it's a good match for a project you will run into bugs and problems that seem to be related to its maturity. Ask questions here or on the mailing list, lots of us have been through those problems and resolved them. It's getting better with each release, so I think the future is bright for WE. There are just some growing pains along the way. _________________ Daniel L. Taylor Custom Controls for Real Studio WE! Yes I was disappointed at first and kept up with its progress, now I am happier. There are layers of maturity you must contend with: 1/ Infrastructure (Hardware) 2/ OS 3/ Middleware 4/ Development Framework 5/ Your own code Not one of them could be considered perfect let alone bug free. People often equate time with stability, which is logical but not entirely a reliable factor. It appears our job is to create something that works around compromises, something that WE is so far excelling in (for me). I will be supporting WE as so far I see nothing but progress. _________________ Regards Chris Musty Specialised Technologies Pty Ltd http://www.specialised.net.au ----------------------------------------------- Latest RB Enterprise (12r2) on Win 8 Pro, Ubuntu 12.04 - ahh the pressure I am about to MAC it up also! Turnkey Linux Appliances on Amazon Web Services = unbelievably easy to deploy servers for WE. It just appears to me that 90% of the time I am having to devise various workarounds for (hyperlinks etc etc) just to be in a position to have a working application. I also see on the forum in various threads references that suggest that everything that can be done with the Desktop edition can indeed also done with the Web Edition which is only partially true from my experience to date. I will stick with it but IMO this is still a Beta Product at the current time and does need some serious improvement in future releases _________________ Real Studio 2012 R2 SysInfo BackTrack Linux/BackBox Linux/Debian Lenny/Windows 7/Windows 8/OpenWRT/OpenBSD Top J.Sh3ppard Post subject: Re: Web Edition is it mature enough do you think..?Posted: Sun Jan 27, 2013 3:29 pm Joined: Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:44 pm Posts: 550 p0wn3d wrote:I don't think that the Web Edition is a poor product it's the lack of functionality, controls, LR and examples that I find very frustrating. Can you be more specific exactly what the issues are? I still don't use WE yet but I keep looking at it and am hoping it's pretty solid and doesn't have many bugs. Thanks. I wrote it again as a desktop app and they absolutely love it. I think the biggest complaint was being to slow. About 3 weeks ago I was asked to do a web app again. The client wanted a UI that looked just like his existing desktop app so I was considering using WE again. After looking at his existing software I realized I couldn't make the UI without much work so I decided to go with the normal PHP, JavaScript and jQuery. I think WE has improved a lot but it still has a ways to go. _________________ RB Pro 2012R1 Windows 7/Ubuntu 10.04 Top Akiland Post subject: Re: Web Edition is it mature enough do you think..?Posted: Mon Jan 28, 2013 3:36 am Joined: Tue Jan 04, 2011 3:02 am Posts: 1137 Location: Jönköping, Sweden jharris wrote:I think the biggest complaint was being to slow. Out of curiosity, how was the app hosted? CGI, Stand-Alone? What kind of server? _________________ http://www.linkedin.com/in/albinkiland Dev. iMac 27" + 2x22" LG (2.8GHz Intel Core i7, 12GB RAM, 120GB SSD) OS X 10.8 REAL.Studio Web Edition 2011r3 Top Display posts from previous: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by AuthorPost timeSubject AscendingDescending Page 1 of 1 [ 8 posts ]
