I am trying to piece together a simple database driven web app to see how it all works. I have trawled the forums to understand the best way of doing things but I still have the following questions that i'm hoping someone can clarify for me. 1. It seems people concur that opening and closing a database connection in the Session open and close events respectively is the best way to go. I assume this also means creating a Session database proptery (ie db property) to hold the connection open. From my understanding the Session object is global in scope just like the app and in all the sample code i've seen (no web db samples available though) the db property is referenced directly from anywhere in the code (ie db.SQLExecute). But when I try and do the same from my web app the build fails and I have to reference the property with Session.db.SQLExecute from the webpages etc. Why is this extra reference required if the Session object is global? 2. I can see RS has the db commit and rollback methods but no start transaction method. What is the best approach for wrapping multiple sql statements into one commit/rollback transaction or is my understanding of this concept wrong? 3. I am starting off building just a simple web app with basic functionality and once I grasp that I will start to incorporate some WebSDK elements. There is only a few posts so far about WebSDK so has anyone got any examples of how to include WebSDK controls and other features into a simple web app? 4. From my reading it seems there is a big contradiction between what RS states the WE performance to be (ie FAST, FAST, FAST, and did we mention FAST) yet most user reviews and experiences I read say the opposite. I'm just wondering if there is any reason as to why there would be such a gap between what is promoted and what is delivered? 5. There seems to be a lot of buzz about the future release of RS2013 but I have not been able to find when the expected release date? Does anyone have a rough idea. I will try and familiarise myself with the trial version of RS2012r2.1 and if it suits my style I would prefer to wait until the 2013 release with the new pricing structure before purchasing. Thanks.
