deprecated control with the modern equivalent?

According to Real Software, "Deprecated means that an item is no longer
supported. Ir your projects require this item, you should find another
solution.... One year after being deprecated, the item will be removed from
Real Studio."

In my own case, before TextArea and TextField appeared I used EditField (now
deprecated?) in almost all of my programs. My guess is that the same is true
of many other people on these Forums.

Real Software says that we "should find another solution." What is "another
solution" that people have found? And exactly how do people go about replacing
EditField with something that will do essentially the same thing? (It is easy
enough to remove an EditField; it is more difficult to put something in its
place.) What solution have people on these Forums found?

I've been doing some thinking about one possible solution.

I haven't tried it out yet, but I would guess that it wouldn't be impossible to
figure out how to manipulate programs saved as XML files to add and/or remove
controls. It's a bit more difficult with controls, because the information on
controls is in two different places in the Project XML file, but I believe it
could be done. And changing the name of the control is something very easy to
do; I changed the names of all the controls in a routine I wrote to "obfuscate"
programs by switching around the names of controls.

Before I spend a lot of time re-inventing the wheel, however, I'd like to know
what other people here have done as a solution to this situation. Thanks in
advance for sharing.
