I am currently using MySQL Workbench and find it irritating. Itâs clunky and freezes periodically. As you can see from my questions, Iâm a bit of a server-virgin. I would like to install phpMyAdmin but it would seem to require the installation of a server. I havenât done that before and itâs a bit nerve wracking. Here are my questions: · Should I skip installing phpMyAdmin and use something else that isnât browser driven? If so, any recommendations? · Is it possible to install phpMyAdmin without adding a server as WE and MySQL seem to be using something? · What server should I install to assure that WE and MySQL will still run undisturbed and I have the least amount of reinstalling and reconfiguring to do? Thanks for your help. Full featured database admin / datamodelling application for both Mac and Windows. Not cheap BTW. _________________ RealStudio Web 2012r2.1 | MonkeyBread | MacBook Air OSX Mountain Lion | CentOS VPS / WHM*CPanel My RealStudio Web applications are available at http://www.runapps.nl/english/ (Dutch language apps only) Top bsumpter Post subject: Re: phpMyAdmin InstallationPosted: Tue Mar 19, 2013 11:59 pm Joined: Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:37 pm Posts: 13 I'll second the recommendation for NaviCat. But as mentioned, it is not cheap. Workbench is actually pretty nice to be a free product. It's not as polished as NaviCat, but it gets the job done. There are some other tools out there as well that you may want to check out. Toad and HeidiSQL come to mind off the top of my head. http://www.quest.com/toad-for-mysql/ http://www.heidisql.com I've never liked PHPMyAdmin personally. It's a big security risk for production database environments, which may or may not apply in your case. I also found it to be clunky and a little difficult to use. Of course, being a MySQL DBA for my day job, I'd have to recommend getting comfy with the MySQL CLI if you really want to settle in with MySQL.
