Posts: 42 I have a Windows 8 development computer with MySQL
5.5.29 and Real Studio WE working like a charm. I am currently using MySQL
Workbench and find it irritating. It’s clunky and freezes periodically. As
you can see from my questions, I’m a bit of a server-virgin.

I would like to install phpMyAdmin but it would seem to require the
installation of a server. I haven’t done that before and it’s a bit nerve
wracking. Here are my questions:

· Should I skip installing phpMyAdmin and use something else that isn’t
browser driven? If so, any recommendations?
· Is it possible to install phpMyAdmin without adding a server as WE and MySQL
seem to be using something?
· What server should I install to assure that WE and MySQL will still run
undisturbed and I have the least amount of reinstalling and reconfiguring to do?

Thanks for your help.

Posts: 29 Maybe a bit off topic but I can recommend NaviCat
MySQL. Full featured database admin / datamodelling application for both Mac
and Windows. Not cheap BTW.

Posts: 13 I'll second the recommendation for NaviCat. But as
mentioned, it is not cheap.

Workbench is actually pretty nice to be a free product. It's not as polished as
NaviCat, but it gets the job done. There are some other tools out there as well
that you may want to check out. Toad and HeidiSQL come to mind off the top of
my head.

I've never liked PHPMyAdmin personally. It's a big security risk for production
database environments, which may or may not apply in your case. I also found it
to be clunky and a little difficult to use.

Of course, being a MySQL DBA for my day job, I'd have to recommend getting
comfy with the MySQL CLI if you really want to settle in with MySQL.
