So what happens to ongoing discussions? Will any content be transferred over to
the new forum?

completely different format, and use your Feedback login instead of this phpbb3
login. Migrating data is pretty much an impossibility.

Does that mean that if you don't have a current license, you can't post to the
new forum at all?

That's going to be a real pain for anyone trying to get help at the time of the
switch, as the discussion will be disjointed.

Why would you write this?

I've known other people to migrate forum data, including user id's and
passwords.

Most recently (last month) a 'private' forum which is using new forum software
and now has gone public. All data, the old posts, the userid's and passwords
were maintained.

Why couldn't you write an app that grabs and then rebuilds the data in the new
forum's database or structure? Or simply keep the userids and generate new
passwords that are emailed out to us?

The big problem is that I cannot maintain the user ids. I can't match your
"J.Sh3ppard" username with a Feedback account with 100% accuracy. It'd get some
right, but this forum pre-dates the Real ID/Xojo ID authentication system, so
there is plenty it would get wrong.

No, that's not what it means.

Oh great.

Feedback never works for me.
This will be fun...

So, given that only current licence holders can use feedback (in theory) does
that mean that only current licence holders will be able to log into the forum
then?

Location: Lenexa, KS I'm curious how the new forum will work.
The IDE is now free. One would expect the new people will have a lot of
questions...that they won't be able to ask because they don't have a Xojo
account.

So how WILL that work?

You don't have to do it.
Import this forum and let the users make the connections themselves.
Provide a screen where after people log-in to Xojo they can tie themselves to
an existing user/pass from this forum
by entering their existing username and password. If the hashes match make the
connection.
But even this should not be necessary if the email addresses match.

IIRC even joining this forum required registering for a trial of RB.
BTW your blog's spam filter is very aggressive at the moment.

Even at aggressive mode you'd be surprised at how much spam gets through.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

No problem. It's just that you've been posting interesting stuff about the
forthcoming changes and it would be a shame if the number of comments was being
restricted by your filter. Just thought I'd mention it.
