IBM Thinkpad laptop running Win 2K with some RB Dos
6.5++ software. This week, the laptop cannot print
from RB Dos.

After some experimentation, I see that nothing will
print from DOS. If I do COPY README.TXT LPT1:, the
command returns without an error, but no output is
ever generated. Same results using the DOS EDIT
command to print.

The printer, an HP Deskjet 5650, is correctly
installed on the parallel port. Windows programs can
print to the printer. The parallel port is marked as
installed and working in the Windows Hardware Device
Manager.

I looked for a Net Use command that might have
redirected the output, but there is none in effect for
LPT1 and my attempt to delete any such mapping got an
error that the network device could not be found.

If I boot in Safe Mode and try my printing tests, I
get the error that LPT1: is not an existing device (I
tried LPT1, PRN, and PRN: also). I don't know whether
this is indicative of a problem or whether Safe Mode
disables these devices for safety.

The computer does use a docking station, however I
tried these tests both in and out of the station with
the same results.

HELP!
