[RBG7-L] - SUM in reports

Is this a valid expression for a variable in a report?

vTOT_PUR = (sum(tprice)) in purchase where inv#  = .vNEW_INV_NO

No errors are created when I enter the expression but when it executes it
comes up with the wrong total.
