What version of R:base are you using? I have done it a few times and have in production.
My client currently running it is using R:base for DOS 6.5++. I did it as a report with all of the logic to adhere to the ACH specs. You just need to dump your data into a couple of tables and it will spit out the file. I have not researched converting this to the Windows versions of R:base.
