OK So let me make sure I understood what I was looking at.

This report is based on a view that is basically a summarization, of which the report is a further summarization. You have one row to total the total cost of each company / employee / product combination. The report then crosstabs the company by the product. This is one crosstab for the entire report.

Does this mean that the crosstab control can only be set to calculate the values for the entire dataset being handled by the report? If you had wanted to see this break out for each employee separately, could that be done within the one report? Or would one have to run this report separately for each employee?

I'm trying to get a crosstab of service provision
for each day in a range. I need a separate crosstab
for each day, with a header for each day. The header
looks just fine, but the crosstab at each footer is
identical - and when you look closely, it's obvious
that it's tabulating the data for the whole date range,
rather than for that date.

Take a look at the sample CrossTabReport report and the related TCrossTabView view in ConComp database to understand the logic of using CrossTab Control in R:BASE 7.x Report Designer.
