I agree, Karen - "BtnFace" is the default and I _always_ change that type of default purely because any system changes will change the colours.
 
However, I understand why it's done although, personally, I would prefer a "real" colour as the default that wouldn't change due to a Windows' settings change.

My experience is that you have to be VERY careful choosing a background color that refers to something like "btnface" or "inactive caption text" (that was my favorite).  Apparently these colors are interpreted different depending on how the workstation's default color scheme is.  My beautiful "inactive caption text" light blue was an almost-black dark blue on 2 of my client's workstations, matched mine on 2 other workstations.  From now on, I'm picking an actual color or going "custom".  Not sure if others have experienced this.

A Scrolling Region's properties for the Background Color and Selected Row both  default to BtnFace yet when the form is run the Selected Row appears as Navy - on my system, at least.
