I am not touchy about it in the least. I always attributed the kids that I
grew up around called us the "Barleys" because they were even more
"HillBillyish" than we were, but later caught on to the fact that their parents
referred to us that way because that is how Grandpa Byerley pronounced it, so
these days it is more of an endearment from my peer group than anything else.

My wife is generally displeased to here us referred as such, but she is in
denial of her roots.

She spent the better part of her childhood in the semi-affluent parts of Fort
Wayne, In (7 mi south of Huntertown) and didn't find out until we had been
married for a few years that her mother lived next door to my Uncle Wilburs'
Mobil station in Huntertown until she married her father.

The First house we owned in Huntertown turned out to be the house that her
Great Grandmother Combs had lived in just after the turn of the century. We
have a picture given us by her Grandmother, showing Grandma Combs sitting in a
chair in front of the house around 1909.

Consider that when I was born, there were only 80 odd (really odd!) residents
of the town of Huntertown, IN, it then comes as no great surprise that my wife
and I are about fifth or so cousins...

See, I told you I was "HillBillyish"..
