This problem occurs because cursor blinking is disabled in Terminal Services
sessions in Windows Server 2003.

A hotfix is available for those who feel severely affected by this problem.
Well, I'm severely affected (afflicted too), but not by this particular
problem as I guess it's been there since installation and I just now noticed
it!   I'll wait for the next service pack...  Isn't good to know why things
are the way they are though?


That makes sense - each blink of the cursor would require sending screen refreshes to the client. By not sending cursor blinks you cut down on network traffic and increase the perceived speed of the connection.

Citrix does not disable cursor blinks, and sometimes I'm thinking something has gone unresponsive when in fact my system and the server are just trying to catch up on all those cursor blinks. Maybe I should change my cursor type!
