Tom: I have an application in which work order numbers are generated using the auto number feature. The system has been in use since the DOS days (10+ years) and I have not had a single problem; one of the installations had 10 users generating work orders at the same time. Please note that the approach that I use consists of inserting a new record with some basic information to generate the new number and then immediately retrieving the record in the EDIT mode.
