Dennis,

I've had files end up being "open" even with no indication on the server that the file was in fact open. Had to reboot the server.

On the server console, right-click My Computer then click on Manage. Expand the Shared Folders tree then click on Open Files. If your file is on that list it will tell you who has it open. If it is not there, you'll have to reboot the server to clear it.

A server went down at a customer and when they got it back up the RBase.dat file was seen as Open or "in use by another user or application".

Since I had to make changes to the start up file I ended up giving RBase.dat a different name. Not a good solution. But would "unsharing" the folder where my dbfiles are located work or would I need to be the administrator and "force" the closing of the file. I guess this is similar to the "phantom" user we talk about here when a user exist improperly and we are unable to open the data base in single user mode.

Thanks,

Dennis
