Thanks Dennis for your input.
This is a command I have in my RBASE.DAT
file.
SET VAR vtemp =
(ENVVAL('TEMP')) IF vtemp IS NOT NULL THEN SET SCRATCH
.vtemp ELSE
SET SCRATCH
OFF
ENDIF
Will that work?
I have Rtime installed on each local
computer.
Should I try having it installed only on the
server?
Are there any other settings I should know about
such as setting FILES,
BUFFERS, or MAXTRANS?

Subject: [RBG7-L] - Re: Network
Optimization
RBG7RT is much larger than Rtime65W so speed
is a consideration. The EXE file is compress in later versions of
RBG7RT but it is decompressed before it is sent over the network. I.e, on some
networks you may decide to have RB7 on the local hard drive and on others it
is fine to have it only on the server. Setting a local scratch file is
important.
You mention a 50MB file 2, but don't forget that all forms
and reports in file 4 must also be pushed out to each PC, and also portions of
the index (file 3) depending on which tables being accessed.
Even a
50MB data base seems big on a slow network.

Hello
All, It
seems like I remember an article or discussion on this at some time in
the past but cannot find the information now that I really need
it. I am
looking for a list of all settings and recommendations for speeding up
performance over the network. My client is using a recent version
of 7.1 runtime. The RB2 file in only 50 megs so I know things should
not be this SLOW. Version 6.5++ was working well on the same
network.
