I checked some of the old threads on report breaks but didn't see this topic.
On some of my converted 6.5 reports with a number of breaks for subtotals I
finally figured out how to get the break and subtotals to work properly.
The break level was on a column value (example: employee number) but the
value in the band was as variable (employee name). When I put the employee
number in the band and made it not visible it worked.
I found the subtotaling only works properly if I keep the break together
across a new page.
Also, the multi pass pushes up subtotal lines and can results in the loss
of one set of subtotals (employee). I will pass on to RDCC.
