Rather embarassingly, I did not think to try this.  I will be back on site
tommorrow and will give it a go.

In the meantime, as a work around, I installed the printer three times on the
workstation in question and hard-coded the tray selection into the printer
installation.  I then use the PRINTER_NAME option on the PRINT command to
select the printer I need.

The application is pretty cool -- combining a three-up document on
white/yellow/pink carbonfree laser forms from the bottom tray (with COLLATION
OFF) with between two and four separate documents on plain paper from the top
tray into a stack ready to go into the field.  This replaces three separate dot
matrix printers, and the new stack is ready to print by the time the operator
walks over to the printer, instead of taking several (noisy) minutes to print.
