Javier - I just discovered that I have the same symptoms, and I use the -a switch. However, if I untick R> prompt in the start up settings, the db explorer opens, and a click on the R> prompt window at the top is virtually instantaneous, and no more time consuming (I find) than having it open already. I just click at the top of the screen rather than the bottom.
