If they're running this over a LAN then it sounds like printer drivers.
Inkjets are the worst for this. Lasers are better. Dot-matrix printers
often need to use bogus drivers to print anything at all. And if any of
the printers are attached to win98/95 machines then... I'd be tempted
to replace them with winxp boxes (read chuck old box in bin :)).
If the printer is on a WAN then I guess it depends on the speed of the
link. If it's a slow link and the document is spooling up to several
megs, then it's always going to be a problem. Citrix uses more effective
data compression which can help in some cases.
Good luck.

Thanks Lucas,

I think the crunch is the remote printers and handshaking with large reports coming from the server. They mentioned that even when printing a PDF file on the server to a remote printer, it can be painful.

I'll mention the Win2003 Citrix XP option.

Dennis, I'm not sure what flavour of terminal services you're using,
but in my experience serving up Rbase via terminal services on a Win2k
server for example, print speeds can be fairly slow. This can have alot
to do with how you setup your network printers, what models they are,
what drivers you're using both on the server and locally and even things
like paper size mismatches (eg. A4 or Letter).
By the time we'd upgraded to 7.1, we'd already migrated to a Win2003
server running Citrix XP. For sure this combination is more expensive,
but the reduction in printer pain is worth every cent.
Not sure if that's any help, but there are alot of things you may need
to investigate.

Moving a user from RB6.5 to 7.1 runtime on terminal services.
One of the issues has been slow printing. My concern in 7.1 is that the default is to display the report and then print it and wondering what others have found in terms of printing speed. I thought I might have them save the report on the server as a pdf file and then email to their local PC to print. Any tips appreciated.
