I think most amateur racers do not need the ego stroking. Some of the authors in BQ can come across a bit abrasive. I give them slack as they are not really journalists so much as engineers and technical wonks. Technical people tend to come across deadpan. Once you get used to them, they are not nearly so bad as you think at first. (If you want real abrasive techies - find the web sites dedicated to do it yourself audiophiles.
