I weigh 240 at the moment, so I've been riding around on 28-32 mm
tires for several years, except on that Merckx that won't let a 28
even turn in the rear. That's okay; it's a racing bike and someone on
this list suggested I use 25s on it, and that helped a lot. I ride
road bikes in places where I would drive my wife's Honda Civic, which
includes some Jeep roads, so road racing tires are not useful to me.
Just recently, I tried some Pasela TGs in 35mm, and was surprised that
they didn't seem to slow me down at all. I sure noticed the difference
in ride, though! Now those look fat on a road bike.

Anyway, I still find it comical that Bicycling would refer to a tire
that isn't quite an inch across as "wide."
