I'm running Schwalbe Marathon Winters in the 26"x1.75 width (not sure
of the actual) at 30-45 PSI depending on conditions (softer on ice/
snow, harder in slush/clear conditions.) I weigh 205 lbs and ride a
mountain bike during the winter (I'm sure as heck not exposing my Riv
to all this salt and uck.)

Generally OK. As stated earlier momentum is key to a lot of it. But
the two things I'm finding can be ugly are wet ice and wetish
compacted snow. Usually the tire tracks left behind cars just after
or during a snow storm where there's about 1/4-1/2" of very compacted
snow that has a layer of slush over the top. I don't think there's any
tire that performs well in this particular situation. It's too dense
for skinny tires to cut through and too slick/thick for knobbies or
studs to work well on. Although I'm getting a set of used Nokian
Extremes in the mail in a few days and I might give them a shot during
the next big snow and or ice storm just to see how they fair in those
conditions although about 95% of the time they'd be overkill for
commuting and the like.

Wet glare ice seems to give the studs something to bite into on the
Marathon Winters but not enough. I was starting to fish tail a bit
during some of the more treacherous nights we've had recently with ice
on the roads.

Good luck!

Ethan
