I was on a bike tour in Utah and the group I was with crossed paths with another tour one day. I wound up riding with a guy on an old UJB in nice shape. We got to talking and he mentioned the iBOB group. I'd never heard of it (OK, I lead a sheltered life) but looked it up when I got home and of course that led to RBW. All just because 2 old farts happened to be grinding up the same long climb on the same day at the same (slow) pace, both of us hundreds of miles from home.

We'll cross paths again... :) I originally found the BOB list, and later Rivendell, because a fellow cyclist noticed my Bridgestone while i was out riding with my family, pulling kids in the Burley and we chatted Bridgestones for a while.
