There was a rear derailleur design they showed (~'98?) which was called the
LMDS - "Linear Motion Derailleur System":

It moved on the twin rods rather than using a parallelogram method, with the
angle optimized to maintain a 4mm chain gap in all gear.  There's also an
explanation of the design on page 309 of "The Dancing Chain" (in which
author Frank Berto states he was involved with the design phase.)

I recall seeing one at Interbike that year, but haven't ever seen one  "in
the wild".
