I too ride an Atlantis and live in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge). I am out
most Saturday and Sunday mornings soon after sunrise and ride along
the Brooklyn water front, through Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay and out
to Jamaica Bay. Great views and few car traffic problems.

The Coney Island boardwalk is open to bikes before 10:00 AM. (it is a
bit of a mess and the 35s on my Atlantis is perfect--several of the st
steets connecting the bike paths etc could use a littel care too). I
have yet to see another Riv Bike. Although most of my rides last only
couple of hrs one can create a very nice 60+ mile ride along the water
front of Brooklyn and Queesn and around the Gateway National Rec Area
surrounding Jamaica Bay. I ussually do this several times during the
year when I play hookey during the week. One can go miles and miles
without having to fight cars. All in the great Cty of New York

My Atlantis is a standard build with bar end shifters (I am sorry I
did not get downtube, I someday may change) with a Bookes Team
Professional (I may change to a B17). The saddle is honey and matches
quite nicley to the shallaced, cork bar tape. Its a bit spartan, no
fenders and I don't even have bottle cages mounted. I kind of like it
that way. Lately I hve been just using a burrito bag lashed to the
saddle rails with toe straps--That seems to work quite well. I have
had the bike for about 2 years and I love it.

During the week, while the weather and daylenght permit I ride in New
Jesey (where I work and where I keep and old Japeanese Road bike
(outfitted with Riv goodies) I ride through the Rutgers campus in
Piscataway and surrounding areas incldued the tow path that runs along
the Rariatan River. My Atlantis would be better for that, but the
old bike has 1 and 1/4 inch tires and with a little skill the tow path
works OK (genrally hardpacked clay with some gravel).

.I bought the bike without see a "live one" based on the t he pics and
reading lists like this. Riv bikes are nice. I am tempted to buy
another. (However, as a Brooklynite, living in an apartment, that
might not be practical).

Cheers,
David
