Ouchy. I hope you make a speedy and complete recovery! I got doored a few years ago. Took the corner of the car door right in the crook of my arm (not quite the arm pit but close.) Nearly severed my right bicep. I was pretty lucky though, no permanent damage other than a pretty wicked looking scar.
Also it's an ugly thing to deal with but I would look into a lawyer. Lost work time, quality of life, etc... etc... adds up. I don't like our litigious society but this is definitely a case of negligence that caused some pretty intense bodily harm. Take care of yourself. It's easy to blow off some of these issues but it's really important to get everything taken care of and documented. Even if you don't file any kind of lawsuit you want to be able to file with the driver's insurance company so you're compensated. Good luck and get well soon!
