Is there something in the tri athlete's water that makes them so patently nutty when it comes to sharing the road? Has anyone else experienced some form of tri athlete road rage? Are there any tri athletes on this list who can lend some perspective to what seems to me to be utterly inexplicable behavior? Aaron, As I was reading your report I assumed that your's was an isolated case. The responses seem to confirm that. It's funny, The last couple of years Louisville has hosted an USA Iron Man Triathlon. A lot of folks have gotten the bug and want to do the Iron Man distance. They've gone out and purchased tri bikes and end up on local club centuries. Unfortunately, most don't have the bike handling skills - they insist riding up steep hills at 5 to 7 mph in their pointy bars, etc. Fortunately, most realize their bike handling skills suck and they either ride off of the back or the front of the group but there's always the idiot that wants to be in the pace line riding on the pointy bars or that you need to get around as they slowly zig zag up a hill. Fortunately, Louisville is almost in the South and people tend to be more polite, (at least according to my perspective of having grown up in Chicago), and there's almost never a harsh word spoken. Riders either keep their distance from these wannabe's or politely remind them to ride of the back. I had to laugh when you mentioned that the "C" spoke with a German accent. Having lived and worked in, at the time, West Germany I could relate. Stay positive, Bill Louisville, Ky **************Performance you need and the value you want!
