That's twice 1.5, which is what one tooth on the ring does, and that's not picky. Going up three in front and up one in back takes the gear up .5. Now if that were make or break, that might be sensitive. But 3" is certainly not trivial. My curiosity is because the climbs in my local open space have my diving to gears several 10s of inches lower than what I typically run on my simple one. I suspect we're I to go up there with the SO I'd be walking basically the whole way up, even if I had a dingle and two rings.
