I grew up in Oregon but I've been down here in Texas for 25 years. Whenever I go home, I find folks' views on hot temperatures to be amusing ;) Seriously though, I was the same way when I was younger, and I understand.
I enjoyed reading your story and the mental images of the Coast Range. I miss it and wish I could visit more often.
